Desktop Applications

Desktop applications are the programs that reside on the hard drive of your teacher computer and student computers. These applications can be installed on both desktop and laptop computers and they are the gateway to all of your computing activities. When you buy commercial software for your school's computers, you generally must purchase a license for each and every computer that will use the software. This can make legal installations of commercial applications prohibitively expensive for schools.

Open Source Software can be freely installed and updated on any and all of your school's computers. Even better, you can legally distribute this software to students for installation on their home computers.

The applications presented in this section of the site all have easy installation programs and will work on Windows, Macintosh, and Linux computers.
